Literature Text

You’re bitter,
sour as the cream spread
upon your saggy bagel skin.
I’m sweet,
Overflowing with sugar
and wishes for all to be happy.
Darkened,
Hardened,
you’ve no desire to be eaten.
And you will rot into your selfish
and hollow core.
Healthy I am not, I am
happy.
Surrounded by others who
have fed from my love,
we wish the same of you.
But stubborn and alone,
though healthy we are not,
neither are you.
In my English class, we were to write a free-verse poem about one of four paintings our teacher had hung up. I chose one of a platter of sweet foods, like cupcakes and such, and ended up writing a pretty strangely dark poem about something personal. Harumpf! I'm no good at poetry, but I figured it was worth a shot posting one up here, good or bad. D:

I'm going to have to agree with your teacher about the first little segment with the cream and bagel skin bit. Very well written. Your poetry is lovely lady; don't give up! <3
